sending love to a freind

So I found out that a friend I work with has a daughter that recently found out she has cancer. She is in her 30's I think and when I asked what kind it was he said that it was "down there". So I'm thinking its either cervical or ovarian. He is going up to New York this weekend to drop his wife off to be with her for a month. I want to do something for her but I have NO IDEA where to start. First off, I have never even met her. The reason I want to help her is because I was know what its like to find out something so dramatic that changes ones life. but I really don't know that to do make for her. I was thinking something white for "surviving"...

Any ideas?

I'm in the same boat you are.. a young couple that lives next to me..she found out she has cancer and has to start some type of treatment because apparantly its bad.. but the thing is she is pregnant! I feel so bad for her..I thought making her a head hugger and scarf something bright and fun to make her smile

Maybe a hat? if she has to go through chemo, she might lose her hair... if she doesn't go through chemo, is still freaking cold in NY in the winter!

I've heard that Rowan's Calmer yarn makes a really great chemo cap - very soft and stretchy.

Make her a prayer shawl...they usually call them that so they know the person who made it for them has them in their mind and heart and hopes the best for them...something soft and warm perhaps???

If there's hospital time in her future slippers would rock or even some thick socks. Not too glam, I know, but very useful and personal.

Even though I know your talents are in knitting, I would suggest something of a diffrent sort.

I think you should make her a scrapbook album. Not actually put the stuff in it, but create the outside. You can find all kinds of ideas at a craft store.
This would create a project for her to do....remember the good times via family photos and journal the events. Somewhat of a diversion from the unfortunate situation she's in now, and doesn't take much physical energy or movement.

Should things go horribly wrong and she doesn't survive this, there will be a great album for her family to share or finish building if she doesn't do so herself.
